  • Merenre II was the eldest surviving son of Pepi II, but only ruled for one year in contrast with his father who ruled 94 years
  • The exceptional long reign of his father resulted in an increase of power of the nobility and the gradual decline of the central authority.
  • The only document dated to his reign is a decree protecting the cult of queens Ankhesenmerire and Neith, from the pyramid complex of his queen mother Neith in Saqqara.
  • He was murdered in a plot and later revenged by his sister Nitocris
